Østfold - Oslo & the surroundings - Your Akershus - akershus.com

Østfold by the Oslo fjord is the gateway to Norway! Østfold consists of sea- sprayed islets and skerries, and more than 1,000 large and small islands along a long stretch of coastline.

Østfold has the most sunny days in Norway, more than 100 beaches, and is considered to be the Oslo fjord’s greatest holiday paradise!

The region consists of the following destinations: Fredrikstad & Hvaler, Indre Østfold, Moss, Halden and Sarpsborg – all with their own distinctive character. Indre Østfold has freshwater fishing opportunities, for pike, perch or brown trout. Fredrikstad has a charming old town, and Hvaler has a fantastic archipelago with countless beautiful islands. Halden features cobbled streets and Fredriksten Fortress towers above the town. Moss receives countless tourists, and is the place where the Convention of Moss was signed. The town also offers excellent cafes and goods. Sarpsborg is Norway’s third largest city, and was our first capital.
